The State Treasury is participating in a project led by the OECD and the European Commission, in which it has committed to piloting the use of artificial intelligence in financial reporting.

Expectations for financial reporting are increasing as technology advances, and AI offers new opportunities for data utilisation. Finland has been accepted into a group of five pilot countries aiming to test AI‑based solutions to improve financial reporting and transparency. The project is funded by the European Commission’s DG Reform and coordinated by the OECD.

Several OECD countries already use web‑based reporting platforms that allow users to view financial figures easily and openly. In Finland, the State Treasury’s published financial data is compiled in the Exploreadministration.fi service, which provides information on the finances of central government, municipalities and wellbeing services counties.

Pilot countries convened – next step is to dive into practical solutions

The project began in October 2025, when representatives from Finland, Sweden, Austria, Hungary and France gathered for a kick‑off meeting titled “Use of AI‑based technologies for fiscal transparency and reporting”. The aim is to explore how AI can support financial data reporting, analysis and accessibility more effectively.

Representatives from the OECD and the Commission visited the State Treasury on 27–28 January 2026. The meeting focused on the project’s objectives and the planning of concrete next steps. Expectations in Finland are high: the goal is to launch the work swiftly and make the most of the project period.
