Liisa RäsänenThe State Treasury instructs all central government organisations in preparing an annual sustainability report on their activities. The same guidelines also apply to us, of course. In accordance with the recommendation, we report on the work performed by our own agency to promote sustainable development. In our operations, we want to be consistent and aim for the same goals we recommend to our public administration partners.

The State Treasury’s sustainable development handprint is visible in many ways in the agency’s versatile remit. The examples mentioned in the report give concrete expression to our sustainability work as a responsible manager of state funds, a reliable administrator of state loans and a guardian of state interests that values nature. Our handprint is visible in efficient and reliable compensation services and the implementation of the legal protection of our customers in both normal and emergency situations. Our handprint can be seen in the form of digitalisation and in our role as an enabler of access to electronic services independent of time and place in our services.

The openness and publicity of the allocation of the billions of euros in government grants and the knowledge base of the municipal and wellbeing services county finances illustrate the sustainability aspects related to them and enhance the transparency of public administration. In supporting the state’s working life and sustainability work, only the planet is the limit!

Does the sustainability coach do the same exercises?

We actively develop our work’s sustainability and ways to make it visible. In addition to selected theme articles, this report presents various indicators. Cycle by cycle, we aim to make our sustainability work even more goal-oriented, systematic and continuous. This makes comparability in time and with other organisations more effective and integrates sustainability thinking more strongly into operational and financial planning, steering and management.

Sustainability requires long-term practice. Through our persistent engagement in practising sustainability ourselves, we want to show what commitment and development mean for us when it comes to sustainability work. It builds trust in the steering of sustainability work: “The State Treasury practices what it preaches.” By being involved ourselves, we increase our own understanding of the different perspectives of sustainability work. The steering agency is not above others but on their side. Sustainable public administration and a sustainable future are our common goals.
